Masters Project: Kame and The Mabuya Stones
Project type
Educational Video Game
The great Walt Disney once said, “I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained...” Disney’s work inspires innovation and creativity in all fields- including education. During my time with the company, I learned that education shouldn’t be a stale black and white text book, but instead a colorful work of art.
While I was earning my Master’s of Education in Learning design and technology, I had the privilege of working at The Walt Disney Company as a Japanese speaking performer. This role gave me the opportunity to facilitate educational programs designed to teach and preserve Hawaiian cultural concepts and traditions. Leveraging my bilingual skills, I delivered over 30 programs in both English and Japanese, ensuring accessibility and engagement for a diverse audience. My role required me to communicate complex cultural ideas clearly and effectively, embodying Disney's Gold Standard of excellence in every interaction. This unique experience not only enriched my cultural understanding but also honed my ability to create meaningful, cross-cultural learning experiences.
As a part of my Master's project, the game was tested for its usability and ability to increase motivation to learn. Once completed, the project was presented at TCC Hawaii (an international online teaching convention).
