Customer education for complex energy products demands more than static manuals — it requires interactive, engaging experiences that build confidence and understanding. At Tesla, I designed and developed an interactive Customer Education and Engagement App for the new Megapack 3 product using Unreal Engine 5.6.1. Using the Convai plugin, I first created a proof-of-concept featuring an intelligent in-game agent that embodied comprehensive product knowledge. Following a successful presentation to the sales team, I was tasked with building a full Desktop application (with PCVR capability using Vive headsets) to support both internal sales training and external customer learning.
The application guides users through key processes including installation, commissioning, de-energization, wiring, and terminations. By cross-pollinating the proven de-energization procedure from our internal Lotov training, I ensured consistency across programs while leveraging the same underlying framework for seamless PCVR compatibility (and VR support via pixel streaming with HoloLite). This project involved extensive 3D asset animation, storyboarding, script writing, continuous information validation with SMEs on a rapidly evolving pre-release product, and rigorous testing. As the senior instructional designer, I led development with support from a team of 3D modelers, AI tools, the Narrative Tales plugin for dynamic dialogue, and a part-time VR consultant.
This solution has created an immersive, accessible way for sales associates and customers to master Megapack 3 operations, strengthening product knowledge and readiness in Tesla’s expanding energy ecosystem.
